Meet in the Arts

Meet in the Arts

Sat, Jul 11, 5:00 PM
From Romantic Food+Cooking+Drink+Art
4.2

Our preferences in art reveal more about us than we often realize. Long before personality traits were formally categorized, psychologists studied personality differences through individuals' ratings of various paintings. If you find yourself drawn to the same piece of artwork, there's a strong chance you share a deep connection. Meet in the museum for an excursion. Sign up on [favr.town](https://favr.town/) and predict your next art buddy before you meet. Find out if you're right when you meet onsite. Or, if you fancy other museums, pin them at times that work for you on [favr.town](https://favr.town/) and discover who you might meet there. Note: This is a [Favr.town](http://favr.town/) member exclusive event. [Join](https://favr.town/events/meet-and-shop-trader-joes-trader-joes-2026-06-15-17-00) [[https://favr.town](https://favr.town/) ] Hint: Fans of abstract art tend to be creative, pop art lovers are often optimistic, impressionism enthusiasts are more likely to be conscientious, and those who prefer traditional art tend to be, well, more traditional. Something extra: Why do these traits matter? See how [optimism](https://favr.town/blog/the-power-of-optimism-in-relationships-how-a-positive-outlook-strengthens-resilience-emotional-health-and-lasting-love-2025-11-20), [conscientiousness](https://favr.town/blog/how-responsibility-and-reliability-build-trust-and-lasting-love-2026-04-19), [traditional values](https://favr.town/blog/prioritizing-family-values-for-lasting-commitment-and-love-2025-12-17), and [excitement](https://favr.town/blog/how-novelty-play-and-shared-adventure-keep-love-alive-2025-12-14) influence relationships. Columbia DSL Summer of Prototyping Immersive Experiences

Columbia DSL Summer of Prototyping Immersive Experiences

Mon, Jul 6, 11:00 PM
From Columbia Digital Storytelling Lab
4.7

Join Columbia DSL for a summer of making, testing, and imagining together. This meetup opens the door to the Dead Internet Museum, a growing collective project that will become a 10,000-square-foot installation at MAD Arts this fall. We’re inviting artists, students, designers, technologists, storytellers, and curious people of all kinds to step into the process early. Come meet new collaborators, try things before they are finished, share ideas, build small experiments, and help shape the world of the project as it comes to life. No special background is needed. Just bring your curiosity, your point of view, and a willingness to make something strange with others. The session will be followed by an open discussion on designing, producing, and funding immersive works. Special guests include Nick Fortugno (Director Gaming Pathways, CUNY), Shar Simpson (Artist & Educator, Columbia DSL), and Lance Weiler (artists & Columbia DSL Director)

Dharma Gathering: "Meditation and the Creative Process" with Rachel Faro

Dharma Gathering: "Meditation and the Creative Process" with Rachel Faro

Sun, Jul 12, 6:00 PM
From Shambhala Meditation Center of New York
4.9

We warmly invite you to join us for a Sunday Dharma Gathering. All are welcome! Dharma Gatherings are community events offering a space for both newcomers and experienced practitioners to connect and learn. These gatherings feature meditation instruction and practice, a short talk by guest teachers and open discussion followed by refreshments and socializing. This Sunday’s topic is "Meditation and the Creative Process" with Rachel Faro: There are many points at which creativity and meditation meet. Both require that one be completely present, resting in that very moment, both require training and practice, and both are human activities that require a combination of intention and letting go. Although there are many artists, writers, and musicians who don’t meditate and are extremely creative there is no doubt that meditation can be of great benefit both in the creative realm and in one’s daily life. The way of the crazy, brilliant, self-destructive, confused, and chaotic artist is not the only way. Clarity, sanity, vulnerability, and discipline are also conducive to great art. Whether one is writing a poem, composing a symphony, cooking a meal, or creating a painting, one might say that the path of meditation allows one to let go of self-centeredness and opens up a world of spontaneity and discovery in the post-meditation experience.
