Quality in Small Startups by Sam Connelly & 2026 Job Market by Andrea McHutchon

Quality in Small Startups by Sam Connelly & 2026 Job Market by Andrea McHutchon

Wed, Sep 30, 7:30 AM
From Sydney Testers
4.5

For our September in-person event generously hosted and supported by Salt Solutions Group, there are two great speakers offering diverse and prescient topics that people have asked us to cover for a while. Sam Connelly, the popular tester and public speaker and former chair of Sydney Testers, will be reprising her talk at Equal Experts: "Small Team, Big Stack", to talk about how she brought in quality practice into a small fintech startup. Andrea McHutchon (Regional Director at Salt) will be giving us the facts and intelligence on the current 2026 tech job market including salary trends and in-demand skills! **Sam Connelly: Small Team, Big Stack: A Quality Toolkit Built from the Ground Up** Most talks about quality assume you've got a QA team, a test framework someone already built, and headcount to spare. This one's for when you don't. **Sam Connelly a.k.a. BugHunterSam**, Principal Quality Consultant within the Equal Experts network in Australia, walks through how a small startup team builds and maintains confidence in what they ship — for a predominantly JavaScript web app — without any of that safety net. **What we'll cover:** * **Unit testing** — what we actually test (and, just as importantly, what we don't) * **BDD, pragmatically** — the test framework we built, and how we've kept it extensible as our underlying model evolves * **Debugging from the outside in** — using analytics frameworks to reconstruct what a user did right before something broke * **Where we're headed** — early experiments including a self-healing UI E2E agent, and using Claude Code as an exploratory testing partner rather than just a coding tool **Andrea McHutchon: An Update on the Sydney Tech Hiring Market and In-Demand Skills in 2026** As part of the event, we will provide an overview of the **current technology talent and hiring market,** sharing - * Real-time insights into candidate availability * Salary trends * In-demand skills * What we are seeing from businesses hiring across the sector. We will also be giving out prizes along with our usual chances for networking and socialisation! Not to be missed

The Inner Game of Success: Master Your Mindset, Energy and Performance

The Inner Game of Success: Master Your Mindset, Energy and Performance

Thu, Sep 24, 7:30 AM
From Executive to Entrepreneur: Business Masterclass & Networking
4.6

**The Inner Game of Success: Master our Mindset, Energy and Performance** The biggest obstacles to success are often invisible. Self-doubt, limiting beliefs, fear of failure and emotional overwhelm can quietly undermine even the most capable people, affecting their decisions, confidence and performance. Many people focus on external strategies for success while overlooking the inner patterns that drive their results. In this highly interactive workshop, you will be guided you through practical mindset and peak-performance exercises designed to help you break through mental barriers, build confidence and create greater momentum in both business and life. Rather than simply learning concepts, you will experience proven techniques that help you access your best thinking, manage pressure more effectively and perform at a higher level. Through a combination of reflection, small-group discussion, future vision creation and guided peak-state exercises, you will learn how successful people create empowering emotional states, stay focused on what matters and take consistent action toward meaningful goals. You will also experience practical techniques that can help you generate confidence, motivation and resourcefulness on demand. **By attending this workshop, you will:** * Identify the hidden mental and emotional patterns that may be limiting your success * Learn practical techniques to create confidence, focus and motivation on demand * Develop greater resilience when facing uncertainty, pressure and setbacks * Create a compelling vision for your future that inspires action * Gain practical tools to improve performance in leadership, business and everyday life * Connect with like-minded founders, professionals, leaders and entrepreneurs Whether you're building a startup, growing a business, leading a team or simply looking to perform at your best, this workshop will provide practical tools and insights to help you unlock more of your potential and create lasting positive change. **About the Speakers** **Roy Kwan** Founder and CEO of Coach Anywhere, Business Coach and Certified NLP Trainer. Roy has over 17 years of business consulting experience and helps professionals, leaders and founders develop greater clarity, confidence and emotional resilience under pressure. **Sonya Furlong** One of a small number of certified NLP Master Trainers in Australia, Sonya is passionate about helping people understand and apply the psychology of success, equipping them with practical tools to create meaningful change and achieve extraordinary results. **About Spark Festival** Spark Festival is back for our eleventh year - and things are looking quite different this time around. We're facing into a long period of uncertainty for Australian founders and investors. Government support, certainty over our tax system, R&D tax incentive eligibility and the ongoing legality of AI development in Australia are all hanging in the balance following significant policy announcements, with minimal consideration of the impacts on our ecosystem. Spark Festival is here to make our community's voices heard, to provide a platform for those who can't pay for access, and to spark engagement across Australia's diverse startup ecosystem. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- By registering for this event, you grant full rights to use the images from any photography/video footage for publicity and education purposes. This may include (but is not limited to), the right to use them in their printed and online publicity, coursework presentations, social media and press releases. If you do not wish to be photographed, please inform an event organiser. The event organisers may add you to a mailing list so they can follow up, and you can receive updates about their activities: this mailing list will always have an easy-to-find unsubscribe button.
