Don't Work for Free! Navigating Contract Gigs, Rev Share & IP
Wed, Jul 22, 10:45 PMGames is a passion industry with an increasingly more difficult barrier to entry. Over the years, many of us have had the same conversations trying to figure out how to navigate "volunteer" projects, unpaid internships, working for equity or rev share, or even the dreaded...working for exposure. The general rule of thumb is DON'T WORK FOR FREE (for other people), but that doesn't mean you always have to get paid in cash for work to be legit. Sometimes there's real value in taking rev share / equity, or having your credit in a game shipped by a reputable studio. So how do you tell whether you're in an actually good situation or whether you're being taken advantage of? If: * You're signing away your IP rights * You're crippling your ability to take on other work * You'll actually be credited in a title at the end of the day * Successful funding down the road will actually lead to money for YOU To dig into all of this, Harris Peskin of ESG Law has generously offered to run a free workshop. We'll cover these topics, plus best practices, red flags to watch for, and have some templates you can take with you. Bring your questions and your war stories 😬 Come learn how to protect yourself before you sign. **Our speaker:** [Harris Peskin, Partner @ ESG Law](https://www.linkedin.com/in/harris-peskin%F0%9F%94%9C-unreal-fest-a57b84b6/) ESG Law: [https://www.linkedin.com/company/esg-law/](https://www.linkedin.com/company/esg-law/) (you do not have to be a woman / femme-identifying to attend this workshop)

How to Break the Corporate Salary Cap and Sell Directly to the Market
Wed, Jul 29, 11:00 PMYou're working harder now than you did ten years ago, just to stay in place. Learn how to take control now, so you don't retire with regret. You're pulling in a multiple six-figure salary, but after Manhattan taxes, astronomical rent or mortgage payments, and childcare; you're barely breaking even. You're feeling trapped on this Wall Street / corporate treadmill. Here's the shift that makes everything else possible: your job title paid you for tenure: years served, boxes filled. Consulting pays you for something different: *portability*. The specific problems you can solve, again and again, for people willing to pay for the solution. So before we talk positioning, pricing, or clients, we start with the question underneath all of it: **which problems have you already solved that someone would pay you to solve again?** In this new member welcome session of The Advisory Leap, I'll walk through why that question matters more than your résumé, and we'll surface real answers live from the group. What to expect: * A candid conversation on becoming a portable professional * A guided exercise to help you answer the question: *Should I Quit?* * Clarity on your next 3 moves You'll leave with the seed of your own consulting offer; and a room full of people who might just become your first referral network. **This is a podcast style discussion. No camera is needed and you can join to listen on any device and engage with other attendees in the chat.** ***One lucky participant will win a fully built consulting profile & website; hosted forever.*** However you arrived here: planning your exit, or handed an unexpected one; if you've got hard-won expertise and you're ready to get paid what it's worth, you're in the right room. *This is an online event for attendees in New York.* **Registration:** * Non\-members: $10 \| [Register here](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1993462242229?aff=oddtdtcreator) * Members: $5 \| [Register here](https://ops.malkant.com/ap-welcome/est) Come with one problem you've solved well. We'll build from there.
