Holland Park Kyoto Garden Walk & Japan House

​Let's make the most of the beautiful autumn colours, and go for a walk in Holland Park's Kyoto Garden! 🍁 美しい紅葉の季節を最大限に楽しむために、ホランド・パーク内にある京都庭園へ散歩に行きましょう！ ​We'll meet at Pret a Manger, near Holland Park Station. T is for The Coming of Age exhibition @ Wellcome Collection

*"Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art."* (Stanislaw Jerzy Lec) **Join us at the Wellcome Collection for The Coming of Age exhibition.** ‘The Coming of Age’ explores experiences and perceptions of ageing, from adolescence to later life, and asks how societies can adapt for us all to age better. Across the globe, people are living longer. One in ten children in the UK are expected to live beyond the age of 100. But who gets to live longer and ‘age well’? This exhibition explores how experiences of age are shaped by our environment, culture and society. ‘The Coming of Age’ features 150 artworks and objects, from historical artefacts to works by contemporary artists including John Coplans, Serena Korda, Suzanne Lacy, Anna Maria Maiolino, Rory Pilgrim, Paula Rego and more. Crime in Victorian London Talk + Londoners On Trial Exhibition @ London Archives

**Join us at the London Archives for a talk about 'Crime in Victorian London - The Realities of Charles Dickens'. We'll also have time to explore the 'Londoners On Trial: Crime, Courts and the Public 1244-1924' exhibition before the talk starts.** **Talk: 'Crime in Victorian London - The Realities of Charles Dickens' by Patrick Voss, Blue Badge Guide. 50-60 minutes plus Q&A.** Discover what author Charles Dickens got right about Victorian crime, poverty and the workhouse, and how dangerous London really was. Dickens portrayed a world of pickpockets, thieves, and child exploitation - with fictional characters such as Oliver Twist, Fagin, Bill Sikes and the Artful Dodger. Crime features heavily in his novel Oliver Twist with offences ranging from pickpocketing, burglary, and handling stolen goods, to violent assault and murder. But how accurate was this picture of Victorian crime? Patrick Voss explores the real conditions behind the fiction, including the workhouse system, urban poverty, and the pressures of life in the largest city in the world.
