About us
Wild Cycling is a Gravel Cycling Club based in Richmond. Gravel cycling is a popular cycling discipline bridging road and mountain biking, focusing on adventure and exploration on varied terrains like dirt paths and bridleways, using versatile bikes with wider tyres for comfort and capability off tarmac, emphasising fun over pure speed. We offer access to scenic routes away from cars, making it great for exploring nature, enjoying longer distances, and finding a balance between road efficiency and off-road freedom, with options ranging from short local loops to multi-day adventures.
Key Aspects
- Terrain: From loose gravel and forest trails to grassy fields and even some beach sections, it's about exploring varied, unpaved paths.
- Bikes: Gravel bikes are a hybrid, featuring drop handlebars like road bikes but with sturdier frames, wider tires, and easier gearing for rough conditions, You can also join us if you own a Mountain Bike or e-MTB, indeed e-Bikes are welcome on our rides.
- Experience: It prioritises adventure, exploring nature, and physical/mental well-being with a focus on fun, community and self-sufficiency. You should ensure that your bike is well maintained and that you can fix small issues such as punctures on the move.
- Accessibility: It's less technical than mountain biking but offers more freedom than road cycling, making it accessible for beginners and experienced riders alike.
Why Try It?
- Escape traffic and discover beautiful, quiet landscapes.
- A great way to build fitness and explore new areas.
- Enjoy epic scenery and a sense of accomplishment.
Please note that dedicated Road Bikes with skinny tyres will not cope so please bear this in mind before you apply to join. You should also have a reasonable fitness level as most of our rides are between 20-30 miles.
CYCLING CAN BE DANGEROUS SO IF YOU JOIN OUR RIDES IT'S STRICTLY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Sail Royal Greenwich 2026 - FREE Ride From Richmond
Location not specified yetAhoy there! The Sail Royal Greenwich Festival is happening in July so this is an excellent opportunity to make a pilgrimage along the Thames to see some wonderful old tall ships the vicinity of the historic Greenwich Naval College. It's a 25 mile FREE ride from Richmond to Woolwich, taking lunch at the Friends Cafe in Woolwich before hopping on Thames Clipper service back to Waterloo. A real treat of a ride showing all aspects of the Thames from both land and from the river itself and witnessing some fantastic old Tall Ships in full sail - a sight not to be missed!. We'll be passing all the great London sights on our return including Greenwich, Canary Wharf and Tower Bridge. This is a free ride and the cost of the Thames Clipper is £10.25 or £5 for concessions including Freedom Pass holders. If you wish to bypass the Clipper you can take the train back from Woolwich to Waterloo.
We meet at Richmond Park Gate at 9.30 and cycle along the Thames Path to Battersea Park where we stop for coffee. Then onwards via Bermondsey to Woolwich where we stop for lunch at Friends Cafe, which provides excellent quality food and coffee at very inexpensive prices. After lunch we cycle down to the Thames Clipper pier at Woolwich for an amazing river cruise back to Waterloo. We should finish the ride at around 4pm at Waterloo Station.
This is an excellent 25 mile Spring ride with plenty of interesting sights and pretty easy for everyone as it's all flat.
Tickets for the Thames Clipper service from Woolwich Pier to the London Eye can be purchased through the link below, we'll aim to get the 2.30pm Clipper. I would recommend buying your ticket before you go as we all need to get aboard the Thames Clipper promptly. The TC crew don't normally inspect tickets so I would go for a concession rate at £5. If you miss the Clipper there's one every half hour or a train from Woolwich to Waterloo
