Ever wondered what you would actually do if someone grabbed you, cornered you, or made you feel unsafe?

Join Triangle Third Place for a free, beginner-friendly self-defense class at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu North Raleigh on September 3. You’ll learn practical techniques, build confidence, and try something completely different alongside a supportive group.

This class is designed for beginners of all backgrounds, identities, body types, and fitness levels. You do not need to be strong, athletic, flexible, coordinated, or familiar with martial arts.

Feeling nervous is completely normal, especially if you have never stepped inside a jiu-jitsu gym before. Everything will be explained step by step, and you are always welcome to modify an activity, take a break, or simply observe. No one will be expected to spar, compete, or do anything outside their comfort level.

Wear comfortable workout clothes, bring water, and come ready to move, learn, laugh, and surprise yourself. NOTE: Shoes will need to be removed to participate.

The goal is not to be the toughest person in the room. It is to leave feeling a little more capable, aware, and confident in yourself.

You may arrive feeling nervous. You might leave thinking, “Wait… I can actually do that.”

In honor of National Read a Book Day, we’re spending a slow morning at the beautiful JC Raulston Arboretum with books, gardens, and good company.

Bring whatever you’re currently reading, find a peaceful spot to settle in, and enjoy some quiet reading alongside new friends. If you’d rather wander, you’re also welcome to stroll through the arboretum and explore the gardens while so much is still in bloom.

There’s no assigned book, no discussion questions, and no pressure to sit still the whole time. Read for a while, take a walk, chat with someone new, explore the gardens, then come back and read some more!

Think of it as part silent reading party, part garden stroll, and part peaceful Sunday reset. Come read, roam, and enjoy one of Raleigh’s prettiest third places with us. 🌿

You don’t need cowboy boots. You don’t need rhythm. You definitely don’t need to know what you’re doing.

We’re heading to Motorco Music Hall in Durham for a night of free line dancing, good music, and an extremely reasonable excuse to dramatically point your boots in various directions with a bunch of new people.

Come learn some steps, jump into the dances you know, or hang back with the group until you’re brave enough to join in. Beginners are absolutely welcome, and you do not need to bring a partner.

Motorco is right in Durham’s Central Park district and also has Parts & Labor, a full bar, and a large patio, so there are plenty of options for grabbing food or a drink and hanging out before, between, or after dances.

We’ll meet up as a Triangle Third Place group before getting pulled onto the dance floor together.

This one is totally FREE and totally chill. Hi-Wire has all the supplies covered, including colored pencils, markers, and a whole spread of adult coloring pages ranging from pretty and relaxing to funny, weird, and delightfully inappropriate.

Pick a page, grab a seat with some new people, and color whatever speaks to you. No artistic talent, preparation, or commitment required.
