We will meet up at the Parker River Visitor Center located at 6 Plum Island Turnpike Newbury Mass.
From there we will get on the Plum Island Turnpike for a short distance to Northern Blvd. We will follow the Northern Boulevard out to Plum Island Lighthouse and take a water break. We will then head back on the Northern Blvd to the Southern Blvd getting onto Jackson Way and then onto Sunset Dr. We will follow Sunset Dr which turns into Refuge Rd. at the Sandy Point Reservation entrance.
We will take a short break at the reservation's entrance before we travel into the reservation to Sandy Point beach at the point. Here we will take an extended break at the beach for lunch. After lunch we will head back towards the visitor’s center stopping for ice cream at the Cottage Creamery before returning to the visitor’s center, our starting point.
It is estimated to be eighteen (18) to nineteen (19) miles round trip. About one-third of the ride is gravel and the remainder is asphalt. The gravel section is the last three (3) miles of roadway in the reservation (3 miles in 3 miles out 6 total miles of gravel).
This should be a fun, relaxing bike ride to be on. Bring your towels, sunscreen, drinks, and lunch. Don’t forget money for the mouthwatering ice cream on the way back. If you can figure out how to bring a chair, bring a chair. When we get to the beach, we will wing it as we go along. This is one of the nicest areas of Boston’s North Shore and its coastline. Hope you can join us. Kevin
PS: I called Sandy Point regarding bicycles entering the park, they are permitted. There should be no park entry fee for us, but to be on the safe side I would bring $5.00 cash just in case.
I have set a limit of ten (10) riders so sign up early. First come, first serve. Hope you can join us.
