About us
A COMMUNITY FOR ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY.
Welcome New York to The Art of Photography! Our purpose is to spark creativity, open new doors, incite discussion and learn from each other in a positive and sharing environment. The basis of which is to facilitate the merging of the principles of art and graphic design with excellent camera craft. To take each one of us, no matter what level of experience, to places, levels and worlds that are out of our comfort zone. To grow, to see, to inspire unique visions. Our review/discussion programs, our photo shoots and educational sessions are free. Your submissions for discussion are for you to choose without regard to theme or genre.
The Art of Photography began as a museum art school program in 2002 and has expanded to over 18,000 members worldwide. So many of whom have grown into exceptional photographers that are hugely represented in international award shows. New York, we are truly excited for your participation and look forward to your development as Artistic and Creative Photographers. Be on the lookout for some very exciting photo shoots and presentations that will be posted on an on-going basis. Also join our International Site to check out over 300 photo albums created by our members. Thank you for your interest and good shooting.

Brookfield Place Winter Garden Photo Shoot (Sat, Mar 28, 2026 @ 11:00 am)
Brookfield Place's Winter Garden is a great indoor spot for an end-of-March photo shoot, with its soaring glass atrium, marble staircases, and tall palm trees creating a bright, dramatic backdrop even on grey days.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Technique Focus: Lean into techniques that exploit height, glass, and constant motion.
- Use leading lines and symmetry on the grand staircase and railings, placing your subject on a landing or centered on the steps while the architecture guides the eye through the frame.
- Work with backlighting and silhouettes by shooting toward the glass facade: expose for the highlights to create graphic outlines of people against the bright atrium and waterfront glow.
- For candid, street-style shots, try layering and reflections--shoot through glass or include people on multiple levels of the stairs, using mid-telephoto lens to compress depth and catch unscripted interactions.
- Incorporate motion blur by dragging the shutter (around 1/15-1/8 sec) as shoppers or office workers move through the scene, keeping your main subject relatively still to contrast against the flow.
- These are just suggestions but use whatever equipment you may have or even an iPhone.

2 Exhibits of Interest- William Eggleston (thru 3/7) & Brassai (thru 3/28)
Howard Greenberg Gallery, 41 E 57th St 8th Floor, New York, NY, USHello Fellow NYC TAOP Members
The following exhibits we think would be of interest to our members.
Brassai's Secret Paris at Howard Greenberg Gallery brings together nearly forty photographs from his iconic Paris by Night series with more provocative images from The Secret Paris, revealing a nocturnal city that is at once romantic, raw, and morally transgressive.
In contrast, William Eggleston: The Last Dyes at David Swirner presents the final suite of dye-transfer prints the artist will ever produce, a saturated, elegiac "last word" on the analog color process that defined his vision of the American every day.
