Programming Art: Math Techniques for Artistic Coding - Nathan Whitehead
Abstract: This talk showcases the work of digital artists and unpacks the mathematical programming techniques behind it, including pseudorandom numbers and probability distributions, noise, color formulas for shaders, divergence-free vector fields, and iterated function system fractals. Aimed at programmers who want to make generative art but aren't sure what math to learn or direction to go.
Presenter: Nathan is a retired professional software developer and the founder of Shimmer Math Labs. Nathan received their PhD in computer science from the University of California, Santa Cruz. They have worked at NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Amazon, as well as taught computer science as a lecturer at UCSC.
