Learning German is hard. Speaking German is harder!
You can take all the courses you want (and many people do) and still freeze the moment a real conversation starts. You are not alone.
Sprachmut is a community for expats in Freiburg who want to get out of their head and into real conversations. It is a space that is safe, welcoming, and actually fun. Whether you just arrived or have been here for years, if you want to actually speak, you're in the right place.
What we do. We run different types of events, every week:
🌍 Community Events: no language agenda, just people doing something together. Hikes, cooking, minigolf, a treasure hunt, picnics... the format changes, the good company doesn't.
🎲 German Sprachcafé & Games (Wednesday & Saturday): open to all levels. We play. We laugh. We speak German without overthinking it. Memory, Bingo, Tabu, Wer bin ich? ... games that trick your brain into forgetting it's supposed to be nervous.
All events are hosted and guided by German instructors, but don't worry, no one is going to hit you with Genitiv and Dativ explanations. Unless you specifically ask. (Some people do.).

Deutsch-Español Stammtisch - Language Tandem
Strandcafe, Adlerstraße 12, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, Freiburg im Breisgau, BW, DEWe're starting something new: a Deutsch-Spanisch Stammtisch for Spanish speakers who want to practice German, and German speakers who want to practice Spanish. Come pair up, chat, play, and switch between both languages over the course of the evening.
You don't need to be fluent in either language. The idea is simple: get matched with a tandem partner (or small group) at a similar level, and just talk, with games available if you want them.

🌍 For Spanish speakers learning German, and German speakers learning Spanish🧭 How the evening works:
🧩 18:00 - Kennenlernbingo (20 min): everyone arrives and mingles
🎲 18:20 - Bilingual icebreaker game (20 min), alternating between German and Spanish
🤝 From there, you'll be paired into tandems or small groups with someone whose native language is the one you want to practice, ideally at a similar level in your target language
🗣 4 x 20 minutes per language: game boxes are available if you want to play something, but just talking is completely fine too. Your tandem partner acts as your language coach for that round
🔔 A bell/gong signals when it's time to switch partners✅ What to expect:
👥 A mix of Spanish and German speakers at all levels
🗣 Real conversation practice with a native speaker of your target language, one-on-one or in small groups
🎲 Games available, but talking alone is just as welcome
💶 Free to join, but please note we'll be meeting somewhere you're expected to buy at least one drink
