About us
Know Thyself! Welcome all lovers of wisdom.
The goal of the Socratic Club is to bring together people from all different walks of life who are interested in discussing works of philosophy, theology, and literature by the greatest minds of history.
We are a diverse group of men and women who are intellectually sharp, open minded, and willing to learn and engage in dialogue on the path of wisdom.
Our meetings are two hours long the second Wednesday of each month.
We love to see new faces: please feel free to send us a message or drop in for a meeting.

Boethius: The Consolation of Philosophy (SFSC Monthly Meetup)
Panera Bread, 779 S Federal Hwy, Deerfield Beach, FL, USThank you to everyone who came out for our discussion of Nietzsche's challenging essay impugning the moral realism of truth and lies. I enjoyed the discussion and everyone's contributions. Nietzsche was not shy to critique objective moral values: whether Christian and platonic, or scientific and utilitarian. Perhaps we can reflect further on his "intuitive man" and the use of art and myth in future groups.
Next group will be in July, not June. This should give us ample time to wend our way through the classic text On the Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius.
I will be reading the Victor Watts translation available here physical copy $10
If you don't mind a digital PDF it's been uploaded here for free
Latin text for comparison at Bibliotheca Polyglotta
Let's start reading early. Come as we seek, discuss, and quest for truth, love, beauty and wisdom. Let us seek philosophy!
Join us!
NOTE: We are welcoming a new philosopher into the world in June; wherefore we shall skip our June meeting and reconvene near the end of July.
We will continue our meetup at Panera. Please save the tables if you get there early.

6:30-7:45 pm - Discussion of the text
7:45-7:50 pm - Brief intermission for restroom and stretching
7:50-8:30 pm - Open dialogue on themes or concepts from the text About:
