What we’re about
Welcome to the Official San Diego Mahjong Club! We’re a friendly, inclusive club of Mahjong enthusiasts. Our primary format is Zung Jung (Modern Hong Kong Style) (pronounced zhung young) — a balanced, beginner-friendly Mahjong variant. We also play both Riichi (Japanese) and International Mahjong, but ZJ is our go-to variant.

Riichi Mahjong
At Ease Games, 8400 Miramar Rd, 250, San Diego, CA, USJoin us for an exciting and challenging game of Riichi (Japanese) Mahjong! Everyone is welcome, but this event is designed for players already familiar with the basic rules of Mahjong.
New players are welcome to give it a try — just know that Riichi is one of the more complex Mahjong variants and has a steeper learning curve than other styles. If you’re up for the challenge, we’ll be happy to have you at the table!
If you’d prefer a more beginner-friendly introduction to Mahjong, check out our Mahjong Night event, where we play the easier-to-learn Zung Jung format.
We also provide a Riichi cheat sheet to help you along — [click here to access it].

Intro to International Mahjong [Class Only, RSVP to Play Session Seperately]
At Ease Games, 8400 Miramar Rd, 250, San Diego, CA, USThis session is a warm-up and introduction to our International Mahjong (MCR) event, which begins in the hour following this class! Please also RSVP to that event.
MCR is a beautiful but challenging style of Mahjong known for its high point minimum (8 points to win) and its comprehensive list of 81 scoring patterns. The goal of this session is to help players become familiar with MCR’s unique scoring system and develop the skills needed to clear the 8-point minimum confidently.
Agenda:
- Overview of MCR rules and structure
- Introduction to the key and unique scoring patterns
- Guided practice rounds (as time allows) focused on reaching the point minimum
This event is best suited for players who already know the basic mechanics of Mahjong (drawing, discarding, forming melds, etc.) but are new to MCR. New players are absolutely welcome to observe or join in — however, if you’re looking for a more beginner-friendly introduction to Mahjong, we recommend our Mahjong Night event, which uses the easier-to-learn Zung Jung format.
