Welcome to the San Diego Mahjong Club! We’re a friendly, inclusive club of Mahjong enthusiasts. Our primary format is Zung Jung (ZJ) (pronounced zhung young) — a balanced, beginner-friendly Mahjong variant. It’s similar to both Hong Kong (Cantonese) and Riichi (Japanese) styles of Mahjong. We also play both Riichi and International Mahjong, but ZJ is our go-to variant.

Join us for an exciting and challenging game of Riichi (Japanese) Mahjong! Everyone is welcome, but this event is designed for players already familiar with the basic rules of Mahjong.
New players are welcome to give it a try — just know that Riichi is one of the more complex Mahjong variants and has a steeper learning curve than other styles. If you’re up for the challenge, we’ll be happy to have you at the table!
If you’d prefer a more beginner-friendly introduction to Mahjong, check out our Mahjong Night event, where we play the easier-to-learn Zung Jung format.

The format played at this event is Zung Jung — an easy-to-learn format — and we provide easy-to-use cheat sheets, quick reference cards, and friendly instruction so you can pick it up as you play. Come as you are, bring a friend, grab a drink, and leave knowing how to play!

Join us for an exciting and challenging game of MCR, also known as Chinese Official Mahjong or International Mahjong! Everyone is welcome, but this event is designed for players already familiar with the basic rules of Mahjong.
New players are welcome to give it a try — just know that MCR is one of the more challenging Mahjong variants and has a steeper learning curve than other styles. If you’re up for the challenge, we’ll be happy to have you at the table!
