About us
Friday Night Zen is a vibrant and diverse meditation group for people in early- and mid-adulthood. We welcome new and experienced meditators. Please come and check it out!
Wear comfortable clothing for sitting that is not too tight. There will be meditation cushions with mats, and also chairs for sitting depending on your preference.
Our meeting will start with introductions followed by a 30-minute period of meditation partly guided and partly silent. After, the facilitator will share on the topic they have chosen, and then others in attendance are able to share if they wish, on the topic, or on whatever they feel called to share.
Afterwards, there will be optional tea time and snacks, and people can hang out and chat till 8:30 or so. We hope you can make it!
Our group meets in person on the first Friday of the month. Please be vaccinated and stay home if sick (or, if symptoms are minor, wear a mask). Please refrain from wearing heavily scented perfumes or lotions, as to respect the space for all.
We are part of Clouds in Water Zen community in the heart of Saint Paul. We practice in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition, dedicated to awakening the heart of great wisdom and compassion. We welcome people of all backgrounds and faiths.

Coffee, tea, water, and light snacks will be provided throughout. We will be having a potluck lunch in celebration after the Sit ends at 10:30am on Sunday 5/31.
There will be areas for resting and stretching outside the zendo.
During these 24 hours, we’ll often be in noble silence in the zendo. However, there will be scheduled guided meditations, opportunities to chant together, a sound bath, yoga, and also in the last 90 minutes there will be a guided meditation led by Guiding Teacher Rev. Sosan Theresa Flynn, and 108 bells. Please speak softly while outside the zendo.
We have a wheelchair accessible entryway, all-gender & accessible restrooms, and open seating arrangements. Walking meditation, as well as laying down, is also encouraged and there will be a space for this.
