What we’re about

Welcome to Rhody Hikes — an affiliate of Little Rhody Hiking Club!
This group is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the beautiful trails of Rhode Island. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced hiker, join an enjoyable hike through picturesque forests. This group is based in the Providence Area and loves to make use of all the exceptional parks and trail systems here in the Ocean State.
Connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for adventure and nature, breathe in the fresh air, and make new friends along the way. Let's lace up our boots, hit the trails, and create memories. Hope to see you on the next hike!
There are quite a number of resources out there that you can use to deepen your knowledge of Little Rhody's backwoods trail systems.

We recommend these great reads to help you find your way:
Walking Rhode Island- John Kostrzewa, 2023
Best Easy Day Hikes Rhode Island- Steve Mirsky 2010
Weekend Walks in Rhode Island- Ken Weber, 2005
The North South Trail- Cliff Vanover, 2001, 2003
Audubon Wildlife Refuges- Audubon Society of Rhode Island, First Printing
...And of course we really think that you should utilize the AllTrails App to access it's vast database of trails, maps, and user-generated content while your researching and/or on your hike.

Heritage Park Short Hike

Heritage Park Short Hike

Location not specified yet

This loop trail begins from the Heritage Park parking lot on Chestnut Oak Road, Chepachet, RI on the left not far off of Route 44. Please see photo for exact location. It is an interesting short scenic hike through a shaded forest with rock formations, a stream, and wooden footbridges for crossing with nice water views. Don’t forget to bring bug spray to protect against mosquitoes.
Hike Do's:
Do read the Waiver and Release of Liability Terms in the section below.
Do post your picture on your Meetup profile to help your organizer get organized.
Do show up dressed, ready and on-time, to begin our journey.
Do stay with your group: Emphasize the importance of sticking together and not wandering off.
Do use the buddy system: Ensure everyone has a partner to look out for each other.
Do stay put if you get lost: Unless there is immediate danger, it's safer to stay put if you become separated from the group.
Do check the weather forecast before you go: Northeast weather can change rapidly.
Do dress in layers: This helps you adjust to changing temperatures.
Do carry essential gear: This includes a map, compass or GPS, sufficient water and snacks, a first-aid kit, a headlamp, and layers for warmth.
Do inform someone of your hiking plans: Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return.
Do be aware of hunting seasons: If you go hiking during hunting season, wear fluorescent orange clothing for visibility (September to February in RI).
Do research the trail beforehand: Understand the difficulty level, length, and terrain of the trail you plan to hike.
Hike Don'ts:
Don't hike alone, especially as a beginner: Hiking with a group provides support and safety in case of emergencies.
Don't attempt a trail that is beyond your fitness level: Start with easier trails and gradually increase the difficulty as you gain experience.
Don't leave trash behind: Practice Leave No Trace principles to protect the environment.
Don't disturb wildlife: Observe animals from a distance and never feed them.
Don't underestimate the power of nature: Be aware of potential hazards like changing weather, difficult terrain, and wildlife encounters.
