About us
Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.

Movie Club Mixer at CHOP
Culinary Hub of Providence, 211 Washington Street, Providence, RI, USOkay let me start off by saying this mixer is going to be at CHOP (Culinary Hub of Providence), not Chomp, the burger place in Fox Point. Anyway it's mixer time again! And we have it on a Friday night, which is cool and exciting. May's mixer will be at CHOP, located in downtown Providence. It'll also be starting later than usual but that's okay because it's a Friday night, right? No early birds allowed! Just kidding.
The event will start at 8:30pm at CHOP on Friday, May 22nd. It'll end at 10:30pm or a little after. I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there. CHOP has many alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available for you. They also might have their kitchen open for us. We're still working out those details.
The mixers are a great way to familiarize yourself more with the group and its members. As a reminder, there's no movie portion, only the hanging out part. Old members, new members, and anyone who has wanted to check out the group is welcome! It's just a space for people to socialize, no pressure. See you there!

Fargo at AS220 Black Box
AS220 Black Box Theater, 95 Empire Street, Providence, RI, USAh what better film to celebrate the incoming warm weather than [checks notes] Fargo??? That was a joke btw. For our May screening at AS220, we're showing 1996's Fargo, written and directed by the Coen brothers. Frances McDormand plays police chief Marge Gunderson, who investigates after a car salesman, Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy), hires two dimwitted criminals to kidnap his wife to extort a ransom from her wealthy father.
Join us on Wednesday, May 27th for a 7:00pm screening of Fargo at the AS220 Black Box theater. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll go to the AS220 bar afterwards to hang out (or someplace else downtown depending on the mood).
This is a ticketed event, and tickets are $7 each. You can pay with cash or card at the door. AS220 will soon have a preorder link up as well if you want to go down that route. Feel free to drop a comment if you get lost or have any questions. The Black Box theater is located at 95 Empire Street in downtown Providence, to the right of the AS220 bar.

Movie Club Mixer at Ogie's
Ogie's Trailer Park, 1155 Westminster St., Providence, RI, USSo we have a late-night mixer in May, and now we have a rare daytime mixer in June! Yup, we're heading to our beloved Ogie's for the next Movie Club Mixer. And it'll be during the daytime. A nice change of pace, right?
The event will start at Ogie's at 1:00pm on Sunday, June 7th. It'll go on as long as people are around, though the official end time will be 4:00pm. We'll be in the back courtyard (see the picture for this event in case you've never been to Ogie's before). I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there. Ogie's has alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, as well as a bunch of delicious food available. I think they'll even have their brunch menu available, which is exciting!

The Birdcage with Queers & Beers of Rhode Island
ISCO, 1 Sims Avenue ##103 Providence, RI 02909, Providence, RI, USLast year for Pride Month, we partnered with Queers & Beers of Rhode Island for an outdoor screening of But I'm a Cheerleader at ISCO Spirits. It was a super fun event, so we wanted to do another collab for 2026. And here it is!
In The Birdcage, a gay cabaret owner (Robin Williams) and his drag queen companion (Nathan Lane) agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancé’s right-wing moralistic parents (Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest).
Join us on Thursday, June 18th for our The Birdcage event with Queers & Beers of Rhode Island! The event will start at 7:00pm for people to mingle and have some drinks. Then the movie will start around 8:00ish.
Last year's screening was pretty packed, so if you have your own chair, I highly recommend bringing it. As a reminder, this will be an outdoor screening in the ISCO courtyard. No tickets required but maybe buy a drink or two to support ISCO. See you then!
