Our Safe Space is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers feminine energy in any form, fostering growth and resilience by providing a positive space where everyone can thrive through self-discovery and community.
This nonprofit and is founded and led by Gayla Gongwer, a seasoned educator, trainer, and facilitator, who brings decades of experience and energy to her work. Born in Kentucky, she earned her degree in social psychology from Illinois State University before venturing west of the Mississippi in 1979 – and has gratefully avoided living in winter ever since.
Currently, Gayla is dedicated to growing her lifelong dream, "Our Safe Space," a nonprofit organization committed to helping everyone live the life of their dreams. Whatever that dream might be.
With a passion for community engagement, she currently volunteers weekly at Friends of the Library and serves on the Board & Marketing Committee. Gayla's love for literature extends beyond her volunteer work; she belongs to so many book clubs that she needs to track them on a spreadsheet.
Driven by her commitment to creating positive change and fostering inclusivity, Gayla invites you to join her in making a difference through "Our Safe Space" and beyond.
Non-Discrimination Policy
At Our Safe Space, we are deeply committed to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or exclusion based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic that makes each individual unique.
We celebrate diversity and recognize that our strength lies in the richness of our differences. We are dedicated to fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect, dignity, and understanding, where everyone feels valued, heard, and safe.
This commitment extends to all aspects of our organization, including programs, events, and interactions. Together, we strive to create a space where everyone can truly belong and grow.

Saturday Vision Board Workshop!
Vision Board Bash: Dream It, See It, Create It!
Whether you're a first-timer or a vision board veteran, this is your chance to gather with old and new friends, get inspired, and have a little creative fun while you map out your best life. Let’s turn dreaming into doing — together.
We’ll kick things off with some lighthearted conversation about goals, manifesting, and setting your sights on the life you want. Then it’s time to dive in and create your board — your way. There are no rules when it comes to picturing joy, success, or your next big adventure.
We’ll bring the poster board, scissors, glue, and a stash of supplies. You bring your ideas, your favorite people, and anything else you want — magazines, stickers, glitter (if that’s your jam).
Or bring your laptop and make a digital board!
And yes — friends, sisters, neighbors — bring ‘em along! The more, the merrier.

Can an unusual friendship survive the worst year of their lives?
Set in the heart of small town America during the turbulent 1980s, The Worst Year of Their Lives is a comedic coming of age novel that blends razor-sharp political insight with deep, unforgettable characters.
Daniella Chaplin is a political junkie. George Novak is a gay boy who calls himself Georgia. They have been inseparable since the fourth grade—an unstoppable duo bonded by brains, wit, and outsider status. But in their senior year of high school, everything changes. A charismatic peace activist with a blonde ponytail and a mysterious past waltzes into town, turning Dani’s heart—and their friendship—into a battlefield. When Georgia falls in love with an older man with AIDS, both Dani and Georgia's lives careen out of control.
If you loved The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Last Dance at the Frosty Queen, or The Prettiest Star, you’ll be riveted by this emotionally intelligent, character-driven novel that balances comedy and tragedy.
Monica Elizabeth Bauer is an award-winning playwright and fiction writer whose work has been produced Off-Broadway, regionally, and internationally, including at 59E59 Theaters and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She holds advanced degrees from Brown, Yale, Boston University, and the University of Nebraska, including a Ph.D. in Political Science and an MFA in Creative Writing.
Her honors include the Emerging Playwright Award from Urban Stages, Best Solo Show at the Hollywood Fringe, and recent Arizona Authors Association awards for fiction. Her novel The Book of Brad has been praised by IndieReader as “a funny, engaging, and warmly touching exploration of modern blended families and religious identity.”
A former Writing Fellow at Quinnipiac University, she is a member of the Dramatists Guild and the Authors Guild and lives in Tucson, Arizona.
