What we’re about
MDGN is a free and open group dedicated to bringing people together to play / learn games, have fun, and make friends. We have monthly board game nights on Saturdays from 7pm-2am in Sterling Heights, as well as many special gaming and social events all around Metro Detroit. From the simplest party games to the most complex strategy games all types of tabletop are represented.
You don't need to own or know how to play anything to attend our events because we have hundreds of games we can teach you. That being said, you're always welcome to bring your own games too. You also don't need (but are always welcome) to bring anyone with you because we can introduce individuals, couples, and groups to play together in a safe, chill environment. Ask around for our founder Rob (Big O) if you ever need any help.
In addition to our monthly board game nights past events have included (biannual) video game nights, laser tag, bowling, escape rooms, disc golf, trivia, karaoke, paint and sip, movies, and more. We also host several annual events like an adult Easter egg hunt, summer BBQ, growler party, Halloween party, Thanksgiving potluck, Christmas party, (biennial) New Year's Eve party, camping trip, pub crawl, beer olympics, and attend others like anime / gaming / comic conventions, renaissance festivals, Detroit Zoo event(s), and beer festivals.
Our group is currently based in Sterling Heights / Clinton Township but we have members and events all over the Metro Detroit area including Warren, Roseville, St. Clair Shores, Eastpointe, Grosse Pointe Woods, Shelby Township, Fraser, Hazel Park, Madison Heights, Harper Woods, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Southfield, Harrison Township, Troy, Berkley, Rochester Hills, Oak Park, Clawson, Grosse Pointe Park, Detroit, and more.

Metro Detroit Game Night: 11th Anniversary Party
Metro Detroit Game Night, 40845 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI, USPlease join us for our annual Party Game Night as we welcome new members and celebrate 11 years of MDGN! New this year is the Wade Boggs Challenge (21+), see below for important details if interested in this one time *optional* fun. The games we're going to play won't be set in stone in advance - we'll pick them together and go over the rules before we start. We have a growing library of 500+ board games (MDGN Board Game Library) and 300+ video games (MDGN Video Game Library) to choose from but feel free to bring your own too if you like.
• Main Floor: Party / Board Games
• Downstairs: Video Games
• Basement: Party / Board Games & (21+) Drinking Games
• The Wade Boggs Challenge (21+): immortalized in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 10 Episode 1 and inspired by a legendary drinking feat where the baseball player allegedly drank 73 beers on a cross-country flight from Boston to LA. If you'd like to participate and become part of the lore simply buy/wear a cheap t-shirt that's a light enough color to mark with a black sharpie and bring as many beers, hard ciders, or hard seltzers as you can drink (could just be a six pack, or a lot more). When you arrive check in with our official Commissioner who will be wearing a badge. Whenever you finish a beer or two bring the empties to her and she'll mark them off on your shirt. No cheating, be respectful, be safe, feel free to crash, do not drive after!
Please park on the nearby side street to the Southeast called Irval Drive. No parking on the grass. BYOB if you're 21+ and planning to drink, whatever food you like for snacks and / or dinner, and anything you want to play that isn't in our game library. Please note there are no shoes allowed on inside (except medical boots) but you're welcome to bring your own clean slippers if you like.
Please do us a favor and join our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/MetroDetroitGameNight/) and like our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/MetroDetroitGameNight/) too. This group is and will always be completely free - all we ask is that you RSVP and join and help spread the word about the awesomeness! If you're ever feeling particularly generous we do accept donations to the game libraries.
• Important to know
Our goal is for everyone to have fun and be safe. If you'd like help finding others to play with, picking out a game, figuring out the rules, or have any issues whatsoever ask around for the host, Rob (Big O). Please note that due to COVID-19 you must be COVID-19 free and symptom / recent exposure free to attend our events, no exceptions.105 attendees
