About us
Utrecht Hiking Community aims to organise one hike per month. If you're in for a hike with a bunch of friendly other people, you are very welcome to join, no matter whether you are an expat, professional, nomad, local or a student. The hikes are a way to meet people while being active and exploring a place you might not be going to otherwise. If your aim is to hike fast, we might not be the right hiking group for you though. For us it's more about having a fun walk, seeing nice places and socialising.

10km hike in and around Leerdam
Leerdam train station, Stationsweg 4, Leerdam, NLOn Saturday October 3rd, embark with us on a beautiful and diverse 10km walking route through Leerdam and its surrounding countryside.
We'll start our hike at 10.30AM at the train station of Leerdam and that's where the route ends too. The historic city center of Leerdam won't be far away from the train station, so that's where you can optionally go for a drink and a bite afterwards. On the way we'll see some typical Dutch flat countryside scenery with lots of cows, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and more along the way. Also we'll pass by the National Glass Museum, which might be worth a visit after the walk, and the river Linge.
Never joined before and not sure what this all is about? Utrecht Hiking Community aims to organise one social hiking event per month, always somewhere in or near to Utrecht. Everyone is welcome: young or old, local or expat, beginner or experienced hiker, student or professional, etc. Usually many participants are from abroad. Therefore our walks are a great way to meet people from all over the world, while also being active and going to a place where you otherwise might not have gone to. We're not about fast hiking though, so if that's what you want, then you might better enjoy walking with some other group. For an impression of previous hikes, you can check our Instagram page: www.instagram.com/utrecht.hiking.communit
Most of the route goes over paved paths and roads, but we'll be walking on some fields too, so please wear good walking shoes. Several parts of the route are going over cycling paths and (mostly not so busy) roads. Please keep walking on the left side at these parts, so there is enough place for traffic to pass.
Also please check the weather forecast. In case of warm weather, make sure to bring some drinks for on the way. In case of rain, bring a rain coat / poncho / umbrella. Only in case of very bad weather we might postpone our walk to another day.
Please try to arrive on time. If you will be too late, we can't make the while group wait for you. But, if you send a message on WhatsApp to +31621177691, we can send you our live location, so you can come after us. We won't be walking very fast, so it should be possible to catch up with us.
Dogs are allowed, but need to be kept on a leash on parts of the route.
For those coming by public transport from Utrecht, we recommend to take the train to Geldermalsen departing Utrecht Central Station at 9:35AM from track 21 (usually). You would then need to change at Geldermalsen for the train towards Dordrecht departing at 10:11AM (usually from platform 7) and get out at Leerdam (arrival at 10:23AM). Please keep in mind that at Geldermalsen you will need to check out from NS and check in at R-Net (there are poles to do this at platform 7). There is also a bus departing from Utrecht, Jaarbeurszijde (platform C7) at 9:39AM, but that doesn't have as much place as the trains.
For those coming by car, there's a free parking area next to the station.
You can join the hike free of charge, but we do make some costs to organise it (yearly MeetUp membership is about €200 + travel costs). Therefore, a small donation would be very much appreciated, which you can send via this link: https://www.ing.nl/payreq/m/?trxid=c9PUSCpaXNEeg8vlBKOgWj8VBgIdcdX4
We hope to see you on Saturday 3rd of October!
