Jour après jour, l’animateur présente les outils de structuration d’un roman. This group is for anyone interested in writing in English, whether it be prose or poetry or non-fiction. We get together once a week to listen, critique and support each other in our work. Attendees bring something they have written, six copies, printed out and no longer than seven pages, which they read aloud. They then receive feedback from the rest of the group. The size of the group is limited to 6, so that everyone is able to receive a full 30 minutes of constructive feedback including reading time. If you have nothing to read but would like to come and listen, you are most welcome too. We are an anglophone group and everything is conducted in English, in fact not everyone who comes can speak French. Please bear this in mind if you sign up.

**Welcome to the Paris Poetry Circle!** Now in its 30th year, our English-language poetry reading group continues to bring together lovers of verse and thought in the heart of Paris. 🎉 Join us this Wednesday evening for a gathering of minds and voices as we read and reflect on poems that move, challenge, and illuminate — all shared over a quiet cup of tea and biscuits. 🫖☕️🍪 We seek poems that are clear yet profound, sweet or serious — those that carry us forward and help us make sense of the world. We steer clear of the obscure or needlessly complex; we value clarity over cleverness, sincerity over show. Each poem is read anonymously to begin with, without revealing the author, allowing space for open, unbiased interpretation. We then explore it together — carefully, curiously — to uncover what lies beneath the surface. After the meeting, we write a letter of thanks to the living poets we have read at the group, to thank and congratulate them. We revere all the poets of this world. The group is small — usually six or seven thoughtful individuals, up to a maximum of ten. The conversation is warm, intelligent, and grounded. *One Hundred Years of Solitude* is a 1967 novel by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez that tells the multi-generational story of the Buendía family, whose patriarch, José Arcadio Buendía, founded the fictitious town of Macondo. The novel is often cited as one of the supreme achievements in world literature. The magical realist style and thematic substance of the book established it as an important representative novel of the literary Latin American Boom of the 1960s and 1970s, which was stylistically influenced by Modernism (European and North American) and the Cuban Vanguardia (Avant-Garde) literary movement. Since it was first published in May 1967 in Buenos Aires by Editorial Sudamericana, the book has been translated into 46 languages and sold more than 50 million copies. The novel, considered García Márquez's magnum opus, remains widely acclaimed and is recognized as one of the most significant works both in the Hispanic literary canon and in world literature.

Avec l’été qui revient, le Japon s’invite chez Conscious, avec la lecture, par Vincent Figureau le 8 juillet, de “Narayama”, premier roman de Shichirô Fukazawa, publié en 1956. Ce roman ne parle pas de l’art de vivre japonais avec tous ses raffinements, mais plutôt d’un Japon âpre et dur. Dans un village pauvre et perdu des montagnes du Shinshū, la coutume commande aux personnes âgées de 70 ans ou infirmes de s'en aller mourir volontairement au sommet de Narayama, « la montagne aux chênes ». Dans un style musical, ce texte poignant transposé au cinéma (Palme d’or à Cannes en 1983), questionne la place des aînés dans la société : et si cette insolite histoire nous contait celle de notre destinée ?

The Dissident Salon is a weekly poetry and performance series created as an extension of the DISSIDENT Club’s mission to provide a home for dissenting voices, hosted by Alissa Leeds. Rooted in the tradition of the literary salon, it treats writing and performance as public acts that question power and challenge the systems that shape our lives. Each week features a curated performer, followed by open mic sessions open to all. Work may be presented in English, French, or other languages.
