Ibapah Peak Deep Creek Mountains Utah
Granite Creek Road, Utah, UT, USPlease read the full event description and REVIEW ALL of the linked pages before signing up for this hike. This hike has been scheduled due to an interest in members from the limited access. Initial meeting point will be at the provided location due to 4x4 requirement where car pooling is required further up the road to the trailhead. Gaia GPS link provides a folder listing of all of the pinpoints and trail maps for this event.
Ibapah Peak, in the Deep Creek Mountains that come out of the west desert near the UT/NV border, stands at an elevation of 12,018 ft. The out-and-back trek up to the peak is 14.4 miles roundtrip (depending on vehicle capability and road conditions it may be 3 miles longer), with a whooping 5,987 ft of elevation gain. YES IT IS SUPER STEEP!! Put another way, this is an extremely strenuous trek that requires superb endurance and mental commitment. Being out in the west desert, the trail is not overly popular, so some route finding and navigation over deadfall and up ridge lines is necessary. Here are several useful pages describing and reviewing the hike:

Hiking to Ibapah Peak, Deep Creek Mountains Girl on a Hike
Ibapah Peak: 64 Reviews, Map - Utah | AllTrailsWe will meet near the provided pinpoint to carpool in 4x4 eqipped vehicles to the trailhead. Please arrive on time or camp nearby the night before due to no communication service. I also have all the locations in Gaia where it is highly recommended to download and save offline in your Gaia GPS app. We will plan to hike at a pace of around 45-minute to 1-hour miles on the way up and 30- to 45- minute miles on the way down. It is essential that you know the pace at which you can safely hike at elevation. Relatedly, because of the difficulty of this hike, the required routefinding, and the remoteness of the hike, we will hike in a close group. Thus, if you have aspirations of trail running this hike or hiking at a faster pace than the group going down to try and finish a long day quicker, this is not the event for you. As the area is quite remote and without cell service, it is important that everyone writes down or download directions before leaving Salt Lake. Also important, there are NO SERVICES once you leave Wendover, so make sure to fill up your gas tanks there. And much of the road from Wendover to the trailhead area is dirt or gravel, with potholes, so please take it slowly and keep a close eye on the road. Along these lines, the last few miles of Granite Creek Rd to the trailhead requires 4x4 drive and decent clearance. Depending on the vehicles we have, we may need to hike a few miles more than the official 14.4 miles. Please indicate what vehicle you will have when signing up for this event so that I may determine carpooling options to the trailhead. Finally, because of the remoteness of the area, I am going to ask that everyone download both the trail map and the linked materials.
For those looking to camp near the trailhead, there is dispersed camping along Granite Creek Rd.

4 attendeesCapitol Hill to Memory Grove City Walking Loop
Utah State Capital, 350 N. State St., Salt Lake City, UT, USNow that we have extra daylight and the temps are on the upswing, we are starting a new weekly series that combines a little bit of nature and a little bit of city scape. Most Tuesday evenings, we will be hosting a Capitol Hill to Memory Grove walk. The route is about three miles. We will start on the southeast side of the Capitol. Meet at the trailhead kiosk that overlooks Memory Grove. This will be a social outing and a great opportunity to meet new people. The best part is that there are no cars along this route. You may walk as slow or as fast as you want. Dogs and strollers are welcome. Bikers may join at the beginning and leave us in the dust. :)
Depending on group preference this week, and as the spring/summer goes on, we will extend the track a little up City Creek Canyon or into the Capitol or Avenues areas. We may even add more socializing and food afterwards. But, for now, here is a partial link to the route:
