What we’re about
Ever find your social circle not quite matching your 'out and about' interests? Need to expand your network so you can do things of interest with other people? Could be seeing live music, seeing sporting events, participating in walks/hiking/on-water activities, bowling/mini-putt, live entertainment, checking out new comedy shows, dining experiences... the list goes on. The goal is to give like-people an avenue to engage and participate where they may have said 'no thank you' without someone to go with. A chance to meet new people and build a social network, where we may not be able to otherwise.
Note: Guests are not permitted to events in this group.
Updated Policies:
- No showing to an event will result in removal from the group.
- Continually RSVPing Yes and changing to RSVP No may eventually result in removal from the group. Try to know availability before saying Yes to allow others to participate and reduce lengthy wait lists.
Group Fees: (Payable to Shawnameetup@gmail.com)
New members (in case you're telling others about the group or leave/come back):
- Fee is payable within 2 days of joining the group or before the first event, whichever comes first; failure to submit fee will result in removal from the group.
- Fee is prorated by months remaining in the year ($1 per month), e.g. joining mid-June = $1 x 6 remaining months = $6.
- Unpaid members will remain on the Waitlist for any events within the 7 day period until until payment is made.
Existing members:
- Fee is payable on or before the first event you attend after January 1st; Pro-rating of the fee does not apply to existing members; the fee is good for all of 2026 (calendar year); it is non-refundable and non-transferrable
- For current members who have purchased tickets for existing/already posted events, the annual fee will still be applicable; however, should you decide to not participate in the annual fee/group membership (which is fine), your paid event remains good, but you will not be able to participate in other events.
- Paid members will be prioritized over non-paid members where a waitlist is applicable.
- Participating in the annual fee does not override/excuse any of the existing group rules: 1) No showing to an event will result in removal from the group 2) Perpetual RSVP = Yes and switching to No may result in removal from the group
Housekeeping/Reminders:
- It is the responsibility of members to ensure personalized notifications are appropriately set in the Meetup.com App. Failure to receive an alert/reminder/notification/message is the responsibility of the member and not the organizer.
- As part of signing up with Meetup.com, members have agreed to terms and conditions associated with participating in group events, including participating in posted events at your own risk (health, injuries, etc.). Any injuries or issues that occur while participating in an event is not transferable (transfer of fault) to the organizer.
- I do not allow guests to participate in group Meetup events for 2 reasons: 1) Guests do not consent/agree to the terms and conditions (see 1st bullet) 2) The group is meant to meet new people - it's not uncommon for people to use ideas from this group to book events with their friends/family on their own.
- Per above, the group is meant to meet new people, enjoy each other's company and enjoy experiences together. This is not a 'singles meetup group', but instead is meant to build friendships. IF you decide to message someone privately to pursue a friendship, please be considerate of those you are communicating with. I have received a few messages regarding instances where people have messaged others with the intention of getting to know a person outside of the group. It's important to me (as the group organizer) that people are comfortable and are not deterred from participating in the group as a result. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable and/or are contacted by a member inappropriately, please let me know and I'll handle instances of concern on an individual basis.
Relationship Status (new this year)
- To elaborate on bullets above, this is not a singles group, so please do not treat is as a place to meet your mate or anything along similar lines. It is meant for individuals (regardless of marital/relationship status) to meet new people and do enjoyable things with.... and get out of the house.
- More elaboration: This not a couples group. If you are looking to do things as a couple, I'm happy to make a referral to a nice local couples group so you can build those connections. For the handful of couples already in the group, please be cognizant that individuals in the group may not be comfortable hanging out on their own with couples (as a third wheel). I also recognize there are couples in the group with different individual interests, making them married individuals participating in the group (part of the target market for this group).
