What is…a Human: A Creative Exploration (Ages 12-16)
Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL, USYou must register on our website prior to attending this two-week course. Click here.
This class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays for 2 weeks
In this workshop, students will investigate one of the oldest and most elusive questions: what is a human? Rather than approaching the question through anatomy, behavior, or language, participants will explore humanity as an abstract condition- an idea, an energy, a presence, or a relation.
This class is not about learning art as an end in itself. Instead, art becomes a means of inquiry—a way to think, feel, and encounter complexity through creative process. Students will use artistic expression not to perfect technique, but experience how making can itself become a form of exploration.
Through guided discussion and creative exercises, students will be challenged to think beyond the physical form of the human being and consider what remains when the body is set aside. They will then create non-representational, mixed-media art using color, texture, and shape to explore what is human in a language without words. This session cultivates conceptual thinking, emotional intelligence, and aesthetic experimentation. It invites participants to confront the limits of definition and to discover new ways of expressing understanding—without the reliance on words or recognizable imagery.

Edible Art: The Craft of Sourdough
Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL, USYou must register on our website prior to attending this three-part class. Click here.
Three Wednesdays, May 20–June 3
Edible Art: The Craft of Sourdough is a three-part, hands-on culinary arts series that explores sourdough bread as both nourishment and artistic practice. Rooted in time-honored traditions of grain, fire, and fermentation, this course invites participants to approach bread not simply as a recipe, but as a creative medium.
Like painting or sculpture, sourdough requires structure, intuition, patience, and attention to detail. Participants will learn to transform flour, water, and salt into expressive, golden-crusted loaves while exploring how flavor, texture, and design elevate bread into edible art. Through guided demonstration, hands-on practice, and curated tastings, the series emphasizes craftsmanship, sensory awareness, and creative expression.
No prior baking experience is necessary. All supplies provided.
