What we’re about
# The person who criticizes others is only revealing the lack within themselves.
Who are we? A group of fun people with similar interests in outdoor & recreational activities and making new friends.
What do we do? Hiking, paddle sports, festivals, ball games, winter activities and social gatherings. Many of our events are suitable for children.
What about extreme sports? Sorry. If you're looking for extreme sports, there are other meetup groups that would be better suited for you.
What are the rules? We ask that you have fun but respect the interests and abilities of others. The event hosts are a group of volunteers who give much of their time to plan and organize events, so due respect is required.
What does it cost? Trial memberships are free for 30 days. Full memberships are just $5 a year. There are two ways to pay. 1) click "Join Us" and pay on-line using secured Stripe. 2) pay cash or check at one of our events to the event host. Your membership will switch from "Trial" to "Paid Member".
The membership fee is to pay for the website. Any remaining balance will be donated to charity.

Pharr Yarns Family Trail (South Fork Trail) - 4.8 miles easy trail
McAdenville Greenway Park, 501 Lakeview Dr, McAdenville, NC, USThe Pharr Yarns Family Trail, formerly known as the South Fork Trail, is a 2.4 mile mixed surface trail which includes natural, gravel, and paved surfaces. The trail follows the bank of the South Fork of the Catawba River and connects the quaint towns of McAdenville and Lowell. This is an out-and-back trail, totaling 4.8 miles round trip if you start from the McAdenville Greenway Park parking area.
I've hiked & kayaked this section. Very chilled area.
Bring a bite to eat and we'll take a break at the end before returning to McAdenville Greenway Park.
After the hike I'd like to try out Spruced Goose Station.

Charlotte Checkers Hockey Game
Bojangles Coliseum, 2700 E Independence Blvd, Charlotte, NC, USLet's take a break and sit back to watch someone else do all the work at the Bojangles Coliseum. Charlotte Checkers vs Providence Bruins.
Looks like ticket prices start at $29 this year.
In the past we've met at the main entrance so we can buy tickets at the same time and get seats together. Game starts at 1:00, so let's get together at the main entrance at 12:30.
It's about a 1 hr 15 min drive from Hickory. Let me know if anyone wants to carpool and we'll set something up.

Stevens Creek Nature Center - 4 miles easy
Stevens Creek Nature Preserve, 15700 Thompson Rd, Mint Hill, NC, USAllTrails has this listed as 3.8 miles with very little elevation change. It's really an out & back, but there are a couple of options to make it more like a loop and minimize being on the same trail in both directions.
This will be my first time there, so Michelle will be leading the hike.
Bring some hydration and snacks to have along the way. We'll take our time, estimating 2 1/2 to 3 hours on the trail.
Here's a couple of links to Stevens Creek Nature Center and Preserve:
