At the Indianapolis live show "Oaths and Ash" on August 2, 2025, Critical Role announced that Brennan Lee Mulligan would take over as Game Master from Matthew Mercer for the upcoming fourth campaign. The new campaign is scheduled to premiere on October 2, 2025 and will feature a new world "outside its usual Exandria setting".[1] The announcement did not reveal which game system the campaign will use. Business Insider highlighted that previous campaigns used Dungeons & Dragons, however, "the CR team is now promoting 'Daggerheart,' its answer to the 'D&D' juggernaut". They also noted that the announcement did not state "if all the cofounders will participate in the crew's fourth campaign, which may mark a significant departure from 10 years of streaming together"
