About us
"We turn to art to make sense of a life that is heartbreakingly fragile."
-Margaret Renkl
Cultured Milwaukee is a reemerging social cooperative and we are excited you decided to join us. Welcome! I write as the new steward of the group.
Our membership comprises a diverse group of intellectually curious people on a mission of cultural exploration, discovery, and understanding.
This is not a solo journey, we encourage everyone to join in together, actively participate, connect, and from time to time, anchor as hosts.
You can expect thoughtful, enriching, and varied cultural experiences from diverse, creative sources. We endeavor to look beyond the mundane to purposefully embrace the many enjoyable gems & treasures the Milwaukee area offers!
Our lovely, always enthusiastic, and talented Founder and now, Organizer Emeritus, Elizabeth, created this group to highlight events around the city that may be “out of the norm”. Elizabeth’s introductory invitation set the framework and the tone of our existence: "Perhaps if these are the kinds of events you want to attend, but you don’t have anyone to go with - You have found your people!"
Recently, I had a discussion with a member about the direction of the group: For all our scheduled events, my plan is to have a wide range of clear-headed, affordable activities which are humane, inspiring, and interesting! Our summer Coffee and Concert series, will be a mainstay.
Please keep in mind, this current administration has severely cut federal humanities funding to arts organizations and for them to survive, the revenue has to come from somewhere. There will be events with costs and fees, including local fundraisers. We encourage contributions. Without those necessary resources, our cherished institutions will be in profound peril or cease to exist.
Your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are always welcomed, valued, and considered. The path ahead for Cultured Milwaukee may be steep, however I am very optimistic we will together, achieve our goals!
Important reminders:
1. Please treat each other, vendors, and those you come in contact with, with respect, courtesy, and integrity.
2. By attending Cultured Milwaukee events, members and guests accept full responsibility for their own wellbeing, health, and safety, including, but not limited to any food allergies or health restrictions. Cultured Milwaukee and its leadership is not responsible for any injuries or allergies.
3. Good manners and proper etiquette also encompass updating your RSVP. It is tremendously frustrating to research, make arrangements, and save seats for members who are never going to show. "No shows" are the hardest part of being an organizer & I treat them accordingly.
4. All members must have a recognizable human image to participate in events. It is extremely difficult to locate members at events with pictures of their pets, scenery, or a complete blank.
We are all here to have fun.
