About us
Hey, everyone! We understand that most people do not publicly share their RSVP (as either a Yes, or a No) for each and every MeetUp event they're interested in- and thats okay. But for the folks who might be thinking, "geez- no one ever RSVP's for these dances; there must be no one there," that would not be true. DJ Jim Dawson has never had fewer than 15, and as many as over 100, folks come out for these Beginner Country Line Dancing lessons- so please pay no attention to how many people have RSVP'd for any of our events.
Because I'm not able to attend every dance, the Beginner Country Line Dancing meetup events here often do not come with an Organizer or a Host, but the folks coming out will welcome you! All you've got to do is say Hi and introduce yourself to the instructor (usually DJ Jim Dawson) and tell him you're new- and you'll be instantly welcomed and connected!
But please understand even when I am there, we are not likely to have a big "Welcome MeetUp" flag/sign/tablecloth or anything to identify us, because we're all there to join in anywhere as part of the Line Dancing lessons.
The really great news is that the Country Line Dancing scene is so totally welcoming of everyone! All you have to do is show-up, smile and say Hello to a couple of people, and you'll have new friends in no time! Country Line Dancing really is the best way to make new friends, have lots of fun, hear great music, have fun dancing, and laugh and carry on! Please come join us at our events!
We've organized this group to help promote Country Line Dancing, especially for Beginners, but for all levels too. The idea is to make new friends and dance partners, enjoy and have fun with Country Line Dancing. Come join us- you'll have a lot of fun, we promise!
The events posted here are not special meet-up's for just our group. Instead, we post all the known beginner's lessons that are open to the public, so anyone can attend. For over a year now we have had typically 25-40 or more country music lovers at every event (regardless of whether anyone RSVP'd here thru MeetUp).
Want to learn how to Country Line Dance, or to brush-up on your skills and just have Fun?! This group strives to be the source of information on where to go for consistent, regularly scheduled weekly Country Line Dancing beginner's lessons!
And, hey! If you know of any other beginner's lessons somewhere, please let us know!
Also, please remember to come hungry and order something to eat, as well as a soda or something to drink - and, please, TIP the bartenders and servers generously so they keep allowing us to dance there. It is so important to please SUPPORT the businesses who are letting us use their dance floor space!

Thursdays in Elkton, MD - VFW
Elkton VFW, 208 West High Street, Elkton, MD, USThis week we start late (at 7:30) because of the VFW board meetings; please wait in the bar and do not try to enter the dance hall until invited, out of respect for our hosts who need the room for their monthly board meeting.
This past Thurs we had a big crowd + incredible time. This week will even be better. Also, I'll teach 2 huge, brand-new dances, Choosing Texas + Love Story + then finish up on Honky Tonk Way. Don't miss them as everyone is asking for the 1st one especially. DJ Jim will play your favorite songs + requests, + will teach some easy ones for beginners, Expect all the hot dances like A BAR SONG, COLD HEART, + HOEDOWN.
Good News: We found an easy way to handle the hardest part of Honky Tonk Way, so it will not be as difficult this week. The Elkton VFW is right in the middle of Elkton, just off 213, just 3 traffic lights north of McDonalds. Turn L at the light after the only 4-5 story bldg on the left. That's High Street. Then go to the next bldg on the left. That's the Elkton VFW. Please no liquids or food or powder for the floor is permitted to be brought in. It is important that everyone still enter the bldg through the bar + immediately sign the guest book by the door.
URGENT NOTE: SIGN-IN immediately as you enter the door. As a Fraternal Charity, the VFW is strictly "members only" and all guests MUST Please sign the Sign-In Logbook in order for the VFW to not get in trouble with the state auditors who require the Visitors Log to be enforced. Everyone, please follow this rule of the VFW. Thank you! (Also - DO NOT ENTER the rear glass doors directly into the Dance Hall. We must all enter via the bar entrance ONLY, and immediately Sign-In at the door.
Please say Thank You with an appropriate Tip every time you get food or drinks - You may not be aware, but the bartender and kitchen help are Volunteers at the VFW serving our Veterans and guests (like us) who come to the VFW - they don't get any pay whatsoever for their work, so your Tips are all they get.
- Order your food no later than 7:50 pm! The kitchen food service stops early, so you must put your order in by 7:50, so please do not complain if they tell you the kitchen is already closed. This has been a problem for the staff, so please Be Kind and cooperate.
Finally - please be patient and kind as the service can be slow especially when cooking burgers because they must be cooked all the way through! We really must be patient for our food orders to be delivered, as usually there is only one person working in the kitchen. If you order burgers, it takes a longer time than most other food orders, so 3-4 people who order behind you and don't order burgers will get their food before you. Let's all be mindful of being extra kind to the VFW Volunteers and help out. Thank you!!
Thursday, THE ELKTON VFW, 7:00- 9:30 The VFW has been absolutely sensational as it's usually packed + always so much fun, so let's all show up, dance + party like crazy. If you missed last Thurs, it was phenomenal with a big crowd. The VFW has an incredible dance floor, food specials every night, our own private room, friendly staff + big crowds every week. As usual, I'll do a few beginners lessons near the beginning but then play everybody's favorites.
