Walking Through Queer Mexico City: History, Culture & Zona Rosa
Museo nacional de San Carlos, Av. México-Tenochtitlån 50, Tabacalera, Cuauhtémoc, 06030 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico City, MXJoin us for a thoughtfully curated LGBTQ walking tour of Mexico City, exploring the people, places, and moments that shaped queer history and culture in the capital.
Led by Leo SĂĄnchez Morales, a cultural anthropologist and ENAH graduate born and raised in Mexico City, this small-group experience blends history, storytelling, and lived contextâconnecting Mexicoâs past to its vibrant present.
What weâll explore:
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and early expressions of gender, intellect, and resistance in colonial Mexico
The Dance of the 41 (1901) and its lasting impact on Mexican queer identity
The evolution of gay culture in public spaces, including the âChacalâ archetype
A walk through Zona Rosa, Mexico Cityâs historic LGBTQ neighborhoodâhow it formed, why itâs called Zona Rosa, and how it continues to change
Weâll use public transit briefly (MetrobĂșs), then end the tour in Zona Rosa, where those who wish can join us for a relaxed post-tour meal and conversation.
