Heading down to the 9th level, the party is surprised by a withered, floating arm that at first indicated not to go farther then sets off a fireball. As it was floating out of range, it could not be hit by the melee fighters. Not wanting to take a lot more damage, they duck into a room, finding it to be a cloak room. Getting ready to run across the room with the arm and open the opposing door and escape, they are halfway across when the door opens and Halaster comes through. He waves the floating arm off and chides the party for being late for the entrance exam. He hurries them along and tells them all they have to do is kill a devil another apprentice unadvisedly summoned and they will be the newest students of Dweomercore, the premier magic academy in all the universe. He brings them to a chamber and told them to go to it. Inside the room, a voice told them that if they free him, he promises not to attack them. Then a large bone devil flies through an illusory wall. The party debates telepathically, and ends up attacking. Natalia gets injured the most, but everyone was able to survive.
