What we’re about
Welcome to the AMC - Delaware Valley Chapter Meetup Group
The AMC, the Northeast's oldest outdoors club, gets people outdoors for hiking, backpacking, biking, trail maintenance and more. The club also focuses on conservation, outdoors education and camping/cabin accommodations.

Our Leaders
Our trained activity leaders are experienced outdoors people who volunteer their time and expertise. Their goal: to share fun, friendly and safe outdoors experiences. While safety is their primary concern, participants must also accept risk and responsibility for their own safety.

See all- Batsto River Kayaking in the Pine BarrensPineland Adventures, Shamong, NJ
Come join a fun and scenic paddle in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. This trip is good for all levels of paddling ability and is being run with an outfitter so that rental kayaks will be available.
Update: No more openings available as we have 14 signed up through AMC directly. Use the AMC waiver link below to add yourself to the AMC waitlist. There may be drop outs and/or the possibility of a second bus.The Batsto River is a narrow, winding river with clean cool water and small areas to pull out for a break and a nice sandy beach stop for lunch. We will paddle past cedars, savanna grasses and bogs on our way. The last half mile will be across Batsto Lake where the river opens up and is covered by grasses, lily pads, and other flora.
After registering with AMC, you will be sent a link to pay for the rental kayak or for just using your own boat (BYO). Transportation to the river put-in and back from the take-out are included. If you are bringing a guest, they need to register independently with AMC to sign the waiver for themselves.
Our outfitter will bring us to the put-in and will pick us up at the end. Use your own kayak or rent one. The charge with a rental kayak and transportation will be $55 (plus taxes and fees). If you are bringing your own kayak (No tandems please) , the charge is $35. Prices have slightly varied due to state tax and the $2 Wharton State Forest fee. A BYO kayak ends up being $41.60 with taxes and fees. Rental kayaks include a PFD and paddle.
You must register for this trip on Meetup first and then sign the waiver with this AMC site link:

What is a native plant? How does an ecosystem work? How do I identify plants? What can I do in my own backyard to help the environment?
If you find yourself asking these questions, or if you love the outdoors, plants, and the environment, then join us Saturday, August 23rd for a guided walk around the Mt Cuba Center in Hockessin, DE. Leading the walk will be Peni MacMeekin, who is our Vice Chair of the Delaware Valley AMC chapter, as well as Peter Brown, one of the 20s/30s chairs. The walk will cover approximately 2-3 miles at a leisurely pace; stopping often to look at plants, trees, and shrubs, and discuss their size, shape, typical habitat, role in the environment, and more. It is recommended that only adults attend this particular visit; ages 16+ who are interested in the topic may also attend, but require a parent or legal guardian to attend with a paid ticket as well.
Mt. Cuba is a renowned botanic garden committed to the conservation of native plants and their habitats. It conserves and stewards more than 1,000 acres including meadows, forests, streams and riparian corridors.
Accessibility note: Due to Mt. Cuba's rolling terrain and mulched paths, access to level, even terrain is limited. Please visit Mt Cuba's Accessibility page to learn more.
We will meet in the parking lot at 10am and begin our tour promptly at 10:15. Please feel free to bring water, snacks, camera, binoculars, sunscreen, or other outdoor essentials with you.
Cost: Due to the nature of the tour, space is limited. We recommend that you register here as soon as possible. Non-member cost is $29 (which includes your Mt.
