Description: Join us for an easy hike of the White Triangle Trail in the Blue Hills. The White Triangle Trail is a 6-mile loop with 500 feet of elevation gain. Estimated time on the trail is 3 hours. Participants should bring water, snacks/lunch, and extra layers in case of cold weather or rain. Dogs are welcome on this hike but do email me after signing up if you will bring one or if you are afraid of dogs.
Hike information and details will be emailed to participants about 2 days prior to the hike. Carpooling information will be shared with participants after signing up. We will cancel in the case of heavy rain.
This hike and many others are open to the public so you don't have to be an AMC member. Newcomers and beginner hikers are welcome to sign up for the hike.

Description: Join AMC Boston 20s & 30s for a nature-themed book club! The book club is held roughly every other month on topics of nature, wildlife, and the environment. For our next book, we will read “Fire Weather", by John Valiant. Discussion will be held on Thursday, October 8 from 6-8pm at the Mighty Squirrel beer garden at Gore Place in Waltham. In case of severe inclement weather, the location will be moved. Anyone is welcome to join, whether you’ve read all, part, or none of the book! An interest in the book topic is the only prerequisite for joining.
Synopsis: In May 2016, Fort McMurray, the hub of Canada’s oil industry and America’s biggest foreign supplier, was overrun by wildfire. The multi-billion-dollar disaster melted vehicles, turned entire neighborhoods into firebombs, and drove 88,000 people from their homes in a single afternoon. Description: Join the Chatham Trails Association (CTA) for their Fall Trail Work Weekend in the Evans Notch region of the White Mountains from October 9-12! Our 20s & 30s group will join other CTA volunteers for the weekend.
Trail work will consist mainly of Level 1 maintenance: clearing water bars and drainages, clearing blowdowns, and brushing the trail corridor as needed. CTA will provide tools, personal protective equipment, and instruction - no prior trail work experience is necessary. Some hiking will be needed to get to the trail work sites, ranging up to a few miles each way on moderate terrain. As this is a holiday weekend, the event is scheduled to run through Monday.
Lodging for the weekend will be in rustic cabins at AMC Cold River Camp in Chatham NH. Cabins will be shared with 2-4 people. Weather will be chilly in mid-October - cabins are unheated but each has a fireplace or woodstove. The Camp has centralized hot showers and toilet facilities. All meals (breakfast, trail lunch, and dinner) are provided.
In return for your volunteer trail work, the trip is FREE - all costs are paid for by CTA.

Description: Interested in learning more and getting involved with the inner workings of the AMC Boston 20s & 30s committee? Join our next steering committee meeting on Monday, October 12 from 7:00-9:00pm! Our October meeting will be held online. The meeting agenda will be sent to those registered for the meeting.
The 20s & 30s steering committee meets once a month to plan ongoing programs and larger events, discuss ways to encourage new membership and leadership in the Boston community, and update club policies in accordance with larger AMC guidelines. All meetings are open to the public, whether you would like to apply for a position or attend as a guest to learn more about our plans for the future.
