The Sweeps Hiking Group

Enjoy an easy, lisurely hike around the Contra Loma reservoir. We will stop for a snack at a lakeside picnic area. Parking is free, but there are no restrooms until we get about a mile into the hike. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join on a leash.

Leave the heat behind, and join Randy for a cool and scenic walk to see the many different plants and water birds that live along the Shoreline and lagoons of Bay Farm Island. The walk will be about 4.5 miles along paved trails with negligible elevation gain. Enjoy magnificent views of San Francisco Bay and the city beyond. At about the hike half-way point, we'll stop at a coffee shop for drinks and snacks. Well behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. There are restrooms along the walking path. Since we are only stopping for a light snack during the hike, all who are interested are invited to join Randy at East Ocean Seafood on Alameda Island for a stupendous dim sum lunch. 😋🥰

Join Randy at the San Francisco Ferry Building for a moderate 5-mile scenic hike along wooded trails circling Angel Island. San Francisco Bay breezes should provide a nice hike for a hot day. Bring a lunch for our stop at the picnic area on top of Mount Livermore. This hike will be limited to a maximum of 30 people, so please be prompt in updating your RSVP if you find yourself unable to attend. NO DOGS are allowed on Angel Island.

Hikers are encouraged to take Bart to the Embarcadero, then make the short walk to the Ferry Building. We will meet at Gate B (see map in "Photos" section below) at 10:30am to catch the 10:55am Angel Island ferry. Clipper Card Round Trip tickets are $19.50 ($16 senior). Make sure that you have at least $20 on your Clipper Card. If you are not using Clipper to purchase your ferry ticket, you will need to purchase a ticket at Ferry Building Gate C (see map in photo section of this MeetUp posting). Be sure to purchase a round trip ticket, since no ticket purchase is available on the island. I recommend that you get to the Ferry Building no later than 10:30am to allow sufficient time for worry free ticket purchase. We will be returning to the Ferry Building on the 2:40pm ferry, which will get you back to the Ferry Buildingat 3:10pm.

Join Randy for three days of exotic hiking along the diverse and beautiful trails of Oahu, Hawaii. The hikes will cover three different areas of the island, including the Waianae coast on the island's western shore, the rainforests of the Ko'olau Range, and the lush gardens of Waimea on the island's North Shore. The hikes will be relatively easy, with distances of less than 7 miles, and climbs of less than 1,000 feet. In addition to free time on Waikiki Beach, we will make visits to Hale'iwa Joe's for incredible prime rib, and Matsumoto's for incredible shave ice. We will probably hit the North Shore shrimp trucks as well.

I will be staying at a timeshare on Lewers Street in mid-Waikiki. Hotels in that area are showing rates of about $1,300 for 5 nights. Round trip flights are currently running around $500. We will coordinate rental cars after all lodgings are booked. I have added some travel information in the Photos section of this posting.

In order to keep the group to a reasonable size, yet still ensure space for people who are really serious about going, I am going to implement the following method for getting signed up for the trip. Everyone who is planning to go will be placed on the trip waitlist. Once a person on the waitlist has secured lodging and/or flight reservations, they should text me at 925-518-8439. When I receive the commitment text, I will move them from the "Waitlist" to the "Going" list. Hopefully this approach will keep everybody happy .... my primary goal. ♥️🤠
