Middle Tennessee Hiking Meetup

This is a cross-post from Chattanooga Outdoor Adventures. There are a few open paddleboard slots if you'd like to join in. Attendance limited to 12 total.

So I can keep track of shuttle cars, if you'd like to come, please RSVP over at the Chattanooga event page. The description of this event is repeated below for your convenience.

This is a 5.5 mile (~2 hour) paddle down the Hiwassee river. It's smoother and more flowy than the section above Reliance. The outfitters don't service this section, so we must shuttle ourselves.

We'll need a sufficient number of drivers willing to shuttle people and gear from the downstream parking area at Hiwassee 411 Boat Ramp, to the launch point at the Reliance Boat Ramp (6.8 miles). After the paddle, one or more "anchor" drivers will take the original drivers back to their cars in Reliance.

Both parking lots fill quickly, so it's important that we follow this schedule:

1. 11:45 AM - Meet at Hiwassee 411 Boat Launch: coordinates 35.2397°,-84.5637° (Entrance is on the right of the northbound lane, before the bridge. Parking area is under the bridge)
2. 12:00 PM - Shuttle to Reliance Boat Ramp: coordinates 35.1875°,-84.4974°
3. 12:30 PM - Arrive in Reliance, inflate tubes, hang out in the shade, and eat lunch until the dam release hits Reliance. (~1:20 PM).

PLEASE READ - LIMITED ATTENDANCE EVENT
I'm using an RSVP technique used by other Meetup groups when they do shuttle hikes/shuttle kayak trips. EVERYONE is automatically added to the WAITLIST and accepted manually. I'll DIRECT MESSAGE each person (in chronological order to ask about shuttle willingness/car capacity, and ensure understanding that"sign up = show up". After your timely reply is received, you'll be moved to "going".

State law requires lifevests on this section of the Hiwassee and above.

You must have your own lifevest and Paddleboard

Other recommended items are water-shoes, water-proof sunscreen, and hat

Consider leaving water sensitive electronics in your car or use a drybag. Electronic keys often have a mechanical entry key that can separate from the electronic fob (Google year make model "entry key").

Paddling during thunderstorms is not cool. Event may be cancelled/re-scheduled based on weather models/forecast.
