​Box Hill is most famous for the panoramic far-reaching views to the South. From the stone structure viewpoint you can see for more than 15 miles ahead; with Surrey and East Sussex stretching out beneath you. From here we will walk down to the foot of Box Hill and cross the river Mole via the 16 hexagonal stepping stones. We walk through Denbies vineyard wine estate then take a late lunch break at Polesden Lacey, a Georgian National trust building where there are cafe with hot and cold food. This walk is not suitable for beginners, you must be able to walk at a minimum pace of 2.5 mph and only rest after 2 hours of walking. There are 2 very steeps hills to walk up, each over 100 metres in height. The group cannot wait if any members struggle to keep up with the pace. Hiking boots are essential.

• Walking Distance: approx. 12 miles circular walk.
• Walk Duration: Walking time of 4.5-5.5 hours with a two very steep hills to walk up.
• Terrain & Difficulty: starting with a steep climb then steep down hill. Another steep climb 1 hour later then undulating terrain.

Travel Options & Meeting Point

Meeting at Box Hill & Westhumble station (BXW) for 10:00am outside at the car park. PLEASE CHECK TRAIN TIMES BEFORE YOU SET OFF

​BY TRAIN: Train leaving London Waterloo (WAT) at 09:02 and arriving at Boxhill & Westhumble station (BXW) for 09:51 - no change required.

We will return back to Box Hill station after the walk so best to get a return ticket.

Please check for cancelations or delays before you set off

Michael will be driving to the station and will meet you at the station car park.

Possible to get a GroupSaver train discount if travelling with 3+ people. For those that wish to meet for the GroupSaver, just post a message.

The organiser will wait if there is a delay in the train arriving.
If you missed your train, don't call me as we cannot wait for the next train, it will not be fair to keep the group waiting for late arrivals. However, we will wait if the train is delayed.

What to bring
Hiking boots strongly advised as there are 2 steep climbs and sections of the paths can be very muddy.

• Enough snacks and packed lunch to keep you energized during the walk.
• Plenty of water

Wild daffodils exude fragility and pastel shades that have been bred from the varieties grown commercially. Originating from the Iberian peninsular and brought here by the Romans, there are few places near to the capital where they survive.

One is a wood visited by this walk, which also follows two rivers: the Lea and Mimram. The latter was used by the Romans for watercress beds, which like the daffodils remain to this day.

Travel Details:
Take the train departing 9.36 AM from London King's Cross to WELWYN GARDEN CITY arrives 10.06.
Buy an off peak day return to WELWYN GARDEN CITY which is £8.50 with Groupsave or a Network card.
Walk start: 10.10 from Welwyn Garden City rail station. The organizer will meet people at Welwyn.
Walk ends at WELWYN GARDEN CITY.
Bring a packed lunch. Village stop at Ayot St Lawrence.

Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered.
As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

Join us for a scenic 17-mile circular walk through the beautiful Kent countryside, starting and finishing in the historic market town of Edenbridge. This rewarding countryside route combines peaceful river paths, rolling farmland, and postcard-perfect villages.
Leaving Edenbridge, we follow sections of the Greensand Way and local public footpaths, gradually immersing ourselves in open fields, ancient woodland, and expansive rural views. The walk then leads us to the charming National Trust village of Chiddingstone — one of the most picturesque and well-preserved Tudor villages in the country.
Here, you’ll find timber-framed houses, a quaint village green, and the historic Chiddingstone Castle nearby. We’ll plan a suitable lunch stop in or around the village (pub or picnic depending on group preference and weather).
The return leg offers a different perspective of the countryside, with gentle climbs, tranquil lanes, and riverside stretches along the Eden Valley, bringing us full circle back to Edenbridge.
Walk details:
Distance: Approximately 17 miles (27 km)
Terrain: Mixed countryside paths, fields, woodland, and quiet lanes
Difficulty: Moderate (good level of fitness required)
Pace: Steady with planned rest and lunch stops
This is a social, friendly walk with a focus on enjoying the landscape and good company. Suitable for regular walkers comfortable with longer distances.

Meet outside Edenbridge town station

Outward travel: Get the 10:07 train from London Bridge to Edenbridge TOWN, arrives 10:45. Buy a day return ticket to Edenbridge Town, £10.55 with a railcard or groupsave.

Walk starts at 10:45 from Edenbridge Town station.
Walk ends at approx 18:00 at Edenbridge Town station.
Pub/Cafe stop for lunch. Bring a packed lunch
