About us
Welcome! This is a new group for 45+ people who want to enjoy great events and meet old and new friends in a relaxed, no-drama environment. It's run by experienced Meetup organizers. Check us out! No group fee due for the first three months and only $10 CAD/year after that.
Our organizers bring their knowledge and enthusiasm from hosting popular, successful events in various other meetup groups, including the usual fun things (dinners, coffees, movies, walks, games, book discussions) as well as the less typical, like dancing to live music, cooking lessons, scooter tours, midnight kayaking under the full moon, Whitecap watch parties, and happy hours at high-end venues.
A note on the group's annual fee: We very much appreciate if you choose to pay the annual fee promptly upon joining, but also completely understand that you might want to take some time to check out a few of our events first. You have three months to pay from the date you’re approved to join. Payment options are via e-mail transfer or cash (in person). You’ll receive info about where to send the e-transfer when you’re approved to join.

Rocket Revellers at the Commercial Drive Legion
Grandview Legion, 2205 Commercial Drive, Vancouver, BC, CANo cover
Guests welcome.See the high-energy, charismatic, and very danceable Rocket Revellers with lots of room to dance in the spacious upstairs ballroom of the Commercial Drive Legion. The band's repertoire is a mix of rockabilly, western swing and blues.
This show is first-come, first-serve, so we'll meet there at seven to snag tables and have some time to chat before the music starts at 8. I expect a crowd, since this legion has its regular Friday-night dance crowd and so do the Rocket Revellers. Come early to help us get tables.
Plan to stay to the end if your stamina and schedule allow - this band always pours it on during their last set. (Music ends at 11).
Guests welcome. Location is just a few blocks from the Broadway-Commercial SkyTrain station.

Parker Rooftop Happy Hour
Parker Rooftop, 1379 Howe Street, Vancouver, BC, CAThis is the first of what I hope will be many Sunday happy hours at the ninth-floor Parker Rooftop for this Meetup group. Our reserved space is outdoors on what they call their tiki patio and is lined with couches. At this time of year, it will be enclosed in a canvas tent with windows. It will likely still be a bit chilly though, so dress warmly. They provide some blankets.
This space is a bit set off from the rest of the patio seating and roomy enough to stand and move around. The views are interesting, but they'll be obstructed by the tent walls at this time of year.
I'll ask people to switch spots about halfway through - this is a space where it's easy to do that.
Reservation is for 3:30
Dresscode: Upscale casualSee the Happy hour menu.

Arsen Shomakhov (blues guitarist) and happy hour at The Cambie
The Cambie, 300 Cambie Rd, Vancouver, BC, CAJoin us at The Cambie for the good company, cheap drinks and their popular Sunday night live music showcase. No cover.
This week's act will be of particular interest to blues enthusiasts. Arsen Shomakhov has put out six albums and been nominated for a Maple Blues award. Here's a video of him playing at the Fairview from several years ago.
And here's his website, which has several music clips from his latest album, Raincity Blues. We have two tables reserved for 5:30, which will give us some time to chat before the music starts. Based on past experience, I expect the place to start filling up quickly around 5:30 to 6.
The band usually plays three sets between 7 and 10 pm, but you might wish to leave earlier.
The Cambie's happy hour menu is available till 9pm. For omnivores, I heartily recommend the $8 happy burger. People also seem to like the fish and chips.
And if you like local history, here's a great article about the history of The Cambie Pub.
